Restorative and yin yoga in Totnes

Small classes held in a quiet, warm fairy-lit yurt space, designed for deep rest, nervous system regulation, and full-body release.

These sessions are created as  'pit-stops' for nervous systems living in a world that doesn’t often pause.

If you’re looking for yoga classes in Totnes, these sessions offer a slower, more supported approach.

Rather than fast-paced or effort-driven styles, the focus here is on stillness, comfort, and allowing the body to gradually unwind. This is yoga designed for the nervous system , a space to pause, soften, and experience a different kind of practice, one that doesn’t ask anything of you, and quietly gives something back.

Held in person in a carefully curated and beautiful setting, each session is an invitation to pause, settle, and realign with a more natural rhythm.

Modern life is full. Even when it’s good, it’s fast, stimulating, and relentless. These sessions exist because the body was never designed to keep pace without rest, support, and moments of genuine down-shifting. A pause that allows you to return with more capacity.

Rather than a large or impersonal hall setting, these classes take place in a warm, fairy-lit yurt in Totnes, creating a softer, more held experience from the moment you arrive. Everything is prepared in advance for your comfort,  soft mats, sheepskin throws, blankets, bolsters, cushions, and eye pillows are layered to support the body fully.

The space is warmed with a log burner, and each mat is offered a heated water bottle for optional cozy warmth.

Two spaces are available with additional cushioning, a four-inch foam mattress with a crystal-lined infrared heat mat, and two further spaces with heated throws for those who enjoy extra warmth. These can be reserved in advance at no extra cost.

The scent of frankincense greets you on arrival, creating a subtle sense of grounding as you enter the space.

I teach a weekly Sunday Restorative yoga class in Totnes. These yoga classes are slow, spacious, and deeply supportive. They follow original Restorative yoga as taught by Judith Lasater.

Postures are held for longer periods, allowing the body to soften gradually rather than being pushed or stretched.

This is true restorative yoga , fully supported, accessible, and designed for nervous system down-regulation.

Suitable for complete beginners, those returning to yoga, and experienced practitioners seeking depth and stillness alike.

There is no pressure to perform, stretch further, or keep up.

Just time, support, and space.

Twice each season, extended three-hour sessions are offered, combining restorative yoga, yoga nidra, and a full immersive sound. journey. These longer journeys allow the body and nervous system more time to arrive, settle, and drop into deeper states of rest whilst focusing on the changing season in the natural world.

We begin gently, allowing the body and nervous system time to arrive, before moving into simple, floor-based movement to warm and soften the tissues. From there, we ease into long-held restorative postures, fully supported with props so the body can truly let go.

During this phase, Reiki is offered respectfully, with the option of light touch or no touch. Spoken word and guided imagery are woven gently throughout, offering grounding, reassurance, and seasonal reflection without demanding attention or participation.

There is no group interaction, no sharing, and no expectation to engage beyond your own inner experience. Oracle cards are drawn at your mat at the start of the session, offering a personal thread of insight without the need for group discussion.

The final part of the session opens into a full immersive sound experience, using multiple large gongs, crystal singing bowls, and other carefully chosen instruments. The sound is grounding, expansive, and integrative, supporting the nervous system to settle deeply before returning to the outer world.

These sessions are intentionally small to preserve a sense of safety and containment. The environment is low-stimulus, warm, and gently lit. Every detail is considered, so that your system can begin to soften before the practice even starts.
